To begin with, almost all principles within the confines of science are assumed to work if followed promptly. In fact, they produce the desired results when you operate within the parameters of that principle. So what is a principle? The Merriam Webster dictionary defines it as a comprehensive and fundamental law, doctrine, or assumption or simply a rule or code of conduct.  I will borrow the last definition a rule or code of conduct: so a Principle is a rule or code of conduct, it means it tells you what to do or how to behave. In my philosophy I learnt about morality and its aim being to prescribe the best conduct of human behaviour in order to live a happy life, I believe principles also act in the same way: They act as rules that guide our conduct and behaviour so that we can live a happy life.
